When's the best time to tan before a special event?

2 Min Read Tuesday 21st November 2017

No one wants to awake on the day of a special event, wash off their tan and reveal a streaky, blotchy-looking fake tan. We’d recommend tanning a couple of days before your special occasion. This will give your golden colour time to settle and offers an opportunity to rectify any potential mistakes.

A well-applied tan will last for approximately 7 days with regular moisturising to lock-in your glow. Therefore, it’s not vital that you tan the day before your event. In fact, a tan can look better a couple of days after application. It’s had time to settle on the skin and you’ve had time to get used to the change in your complexion. You’ve also had the opportunity to fine-tune your make-up to suit your new hue.

Exfoliating a day before you plan on tanning will encourage your colour to last longer. Use Prepare Exfoliating and Priming Scrub in the shower to slough away dead skin cells. This will create a smoother base for your fake tan to glide onto.

If you’re worried about overdoing it with a traditional tanner and don’t want to take on the risk of making a mistake, opt for a gradual tanner. You can use it every day in the run up to your special event. Layer up each application to lend the skin a subtle sun-kissed finish. This way you’ll have full control of your colour from start to finish.

For those with a busy schedule, use Express Q10 Self Tan Mousse on the very day of the event. It’s ready to wash off in just 60 minutes and develops over the next 2-4 hours, leaving plenty of time to get dressed up for a special last-minute occasion.
