How to get rid of fake tan

2 Min Read Friday 16th March 2012

If you’ve had a bit of a mishap don’t despair!

There is a simple way to get things moving quicker.

Sienna X fake tan products have been designed to be as foolproof as possible – they are easy to rub into the skin, quick to be absorbed and formulated to reduce the risk of streaks and marks.

However, minor issues can sometimes occur if you’re a fake tan novice. From accidentally over-tanning the hands to adding too much lotion to the torso and legs, fake tan mishaps can be rectified if you know how.

Read tanning advice blogs and you’ll find that the principal solution to speeding up the fading process is to exfoliate. But why is this the case?

When fake tan adheres to the skin it latches on to only the top layer of dead skin cells and undergoes a reaction that causes the skin to gradually darken. The active ingredient called DHA is not absorbed by the body at all and just sits on the top of the skin. These cells are sloughed off as the body naturally regenerates, causing fake tan to fade away.

That means that exfoliation is key if you want to lighten your hands or any other areas that have become too dark. Use a gentle exfoliator, such as Polishing Body Scrub, to scrub away dead cells but be careful to do so softly to avoid damaging your skin.

You may also want to exfoliate your skin if your tan has almost faded away and you are keen to start another application on a fresh surface. Whatever you do, remember that fake tan will fade away over the course of a few days until you are ready for another session – that’s what makes it so convenient. You can achieve a golden glow that lasts a week and top up whenever you want.
