Exfoliate before a fake tan

2 Min Read Wednesday 30th November 2011

Removing dead skin cells can rejuvenate the skin.

It’s simple to exfoliate with Sienna X products.

Ask any beauty therapist and they’ll tell you that exfoliating your skin prior to a sunless tanning treatment is a great way to create the smooth base required for the successful application of fake tan.

If you start off with an even surface the fake tan lotion will glide on easily, leaving behind a streak-free finish that looks just as good as a natural tan. But what does exfoliator actually do?

The fine pumice in our eXquisitely soft body polish always results in creating touchably soft, cleansed and reinvigorated skin. The gentle ingredients help to ease out ingrown hairs and slough away any dead cells on the surface of the body to reveal a fresh layer of skin underneath. The upper layer of the skin, called the epidermis, constantly regenerates itself and many cells naturally fall away throughout the day, however, using an exfoliator can speed up the process – this helps the skin to better absorb tanning products and sprays.

The active ingredient in fake tan, DHA, reacts with the open air and the amino acids on skin cells to darken the epidermis gradually; the newer the skin the longer your tan will last. If you apply fake tan to dead skin cells they will drop away sooner and take part of your tan with them, which is far from ideal if you want your sun kissed glow to last as long as possible.

Try to exoliate a day before applying fake tan and rub the product over the whole of your body in a gentle circular motion. Once you wash away the residue and notice how soft your skin feels underneath, eXquisitely soft body polish will no doubt become a mainstay in your beauty regime.
