7 secrets for treating winter skin

2 Min Read Saturday 4th January 2020

Cold temperatures, frosty winds and chilly air can dry out the skin, making it feel tight, chapped and uncomfortable. Luckily, treating winter skin is easy with these simple changes that can be made to an existing skincare routine:

  1. Applying a nourishing body lotion to the skin while it’s still wet from a shower helps to lock in moisture and doubles up hydration power. Massage it in for a minute or so to maximise its effects further.
  2. While bathing, a few drops of bath oil added to the tub moisturises parched skin, which helps to neutralise the skin-drying effects of hot water.
  3. Blending a face oil into night time moisturiser combats dryness without increasing the length of a pre-bedtime cleansing routine.
  4. Layering skincare products in the correct order garners the best results.
  5. After cleansing, apply an exfoliator/toner followed by hydrating mist, eye cream and a serum/oil. Apply a moisturiser last (or blend serum into moisturiser as outlined above to combine and shorten the steps). Finally, put on some sunscreen even in winter for an added layer of protection.
  6. Use a product with Vitamin C in the morning to brighten the skin.
  7. Double moisturise — apply it once, let it settle and apply again for a double whammy of hydration.
