Nevertheless, knowing how to apply your self-tan will make your colour last longer and help you get the best results. Here are our top tips to get an even colour!

Firstly, don a pair of latex gloves before you handle your tanning product. Overly-tanned hands are a dead give away that your stunning tan isn’t the result of a luxury holiday break! When smothering on your fake tan, start from your feet and work your way upwards. This will prevent any tan you’ve already applied from getting smudged in the process.

Be methodical and apply enough fake tan to give smooth coverage but don’t be so sparse with your application that you inadvertently create streaks – you can always add more. Tan your arms last of all, finishing off with your hands. Remove your gloves and rub in some moisturiser around your knuckles, wrists and nails in preparation.

Use a cotton ball to smooth a small amount of tanning product onto the backs of your hands and fingers. Pay extra attention to the areas between your fingers and be careful not to over-apply the formula on your knuckles. In order to get a really even colour, rub your wrists together and interlink your hands so that the colour absorbs fully. And you’re all done!
