Sunless tanning prep tips for men
Gents, need some quick answers to all your fake tanning questions? We’ve put together a guide to fake tan preparation especially for you:
When and what should I shave before a fake tan?
- Make sure you shave your face before your appointment with the therapist. The tanner will cling better to a clean shaven face, guaranteeing smoother coverage.
- If your face tends to get particularly dry, especially after a shave, apply a touch of moisturiser to hydrate your skin and prep it for your tan.
- You may also like to trim down any¬†hair over your chest or around intimate areas — trimming or shaving afterwards can remove some of the colour and result in a patchy finish so always do it well beforehand.
Should I exfoliate before my tan?
Exfoliate your skin in the shower to slough away dead skin cells a day before. Polishing Body Scrub does the perfect job.
Will my sideburns get tanned too?
Apply petroleum jelly to your eyebrows, sideburns and hairline to protect your hair from grabbing the colour and becoming stained. You can also use petroleum jelly on your nails to prevent discolouration.
What should I wear for male tanning?
If you’re wearing boxer shorts to your treatment you might need to roll them up a little to achieve greater coverage. Wear something that you don’t mind getting stained or ask your therapist beforehand if they provide disposable underwear for men.
Feeling uneasy about going for a full salon tan? Try using a gradual tanner first. Gradual tanners are applied in the same way as a moisturiser, develop over the course of the day and don’t need to be washed off. They’re the perfect taster product for tanning newbies because the colour result is mellow.
