How to fake tan the feet
Don’t give your feet the cold shoulder when it comes to sunless tanning.
Apply product evenly over the skin to create a seamless tan from head to toe.
Bundled up in thick socks and boots, our tootsies are cocooned in comfort over the winter months, allowing us to avoid pedicures and polish until the summer sun comes out. However, the season of sandals, slingbacks and flipflops has well and truly arrived so now’s the time to treat your poor old neglected feet to some TLC.
Fake tanning the feet can be tricky if you don’t know where to start. Follow our simple tips to ensure that your feet look fabulously golden and ready to flaunt:
1. Exfoliate your feet with a foot scrub or use a pumice stone to remove any dry skin. Sunless tan is best applied to fresh skin cells because it will help your tan to last longer.
2. Moisturise your feet paying particular attention to the ankles and the heel. A sunless tan can appear patchy if applied over dry areas of the skin and the feet tend to be particularly dry by nature. Rub in plenty of moisturiser to prevent excess product from being absorbed by dry spots.
3. Use a tanning mitt to gently add colour to the skin instead of applying the product directly to the feet. A tanning mitt that has already absorbed some fake tan is perfect for the job – you’ll avoid rubbing in too much colour and end up with a subtle finish that looks just like a natural tan. Remember: don’t squeeze fake tan directly onto your feet! You’ll end up with a rusty looking pair of orange clogs. Be gentle but firm and you’ll achieve a fantastic end result that seamlessly matches up to your sun-kissed legs.
