How to carry out a tanning consultation
Always carry out a¬†tanning consultation with every new client to assess their needs. Here’s how to do it:
Make clients feel comfortable
Do your best to make your client feel at ease. You’ll be asking lots of different questions about their health and allergies etc so you need to create a welcoming space where they can discuss their concerns freely.
Ask the right questions
Ask your client whether they are tanning for a special occasion so you can suggest an appropriate depth of colour for their skin type. Also ask if they have any skin sensitivities, allergies or other health issues that might prevent them from getting a spray tan. You must also ask about medications, double check that they haven’t got any cuts or rashes, like eczema,¬†and check if they have any new piercings or tattoos that could reduce¬†the effectiveness of their tan. If your client has¬†safely had many spray tans before they might feel like they don’t need to discuss¬†these questions but it’s important that you ask them anyway to spot any changes and cover yourself.
Keep a record
Make sure to keep a written record of your consultation with every client so you can refer back to it and update it if required. Sienna X consultation cards are extremely useful because they include a list of questions that you can ask to check for contraindications as well as plenty of space for contact details and notes. Keep a hard copy of your records in alphabetical order so you can easily retrieve them or upload them on a computer using a software program so you can access them electronically.
Give clients an opportunity to follow up
Finally, it’s always useful to ask your client if they have any more questions before you finish the¬†consultation. This will cover all your bases and ensure your client feels heard and happy about the upcoming treatment.
