A novice to fake tanning? Learn the basics right here.

Tanning is simple when you know how.

Don’t be concerned if your fake tanning CV is beset with gaps…no experience is necessary when it comes to self-tanning because the whole process has been designed to be quick, easy and hassle-free. Simply follow our guidelines and you’ll be an expert before you can say Gradual Glowing Self Tan.

As a newbie fake tanner you may want to get hold of a few pieces of kit before you begin. A tanning mitt, a headband, some moisturiser and an exfoliator are all you need to start off with. You should also make a decision on the type of tan you would like to apply to your skin. This will depend on the end result you are looking for – opt for Gradual Glowing Self Tan if you want a subtle colour change that looks natural and sophisticated or choose Dark Glowing Self Tan if you want a stronger, deeper-looking tan.

Use a gentle yet effective exfoliator, like Polishing Body Scrub, a day before your fake tan treatment to remove any impurities on the surface of your skin. The new skin cells revealed beneath will create the perfect base for the application of your chosen fake tan product.

To ensure the perfect result avoid using deodorants or perfumes on the day of your treatment because they can prevent fake tan from adhering to the skin. Pop your headband on to protect your hair and don your tanning mitt. Put a small amount of tanning cream onto the centre of your mitt and begin to rub the product onto your skin in circular motions, starting from the feet. Slowly move upwards, adding more product as required.

A handy tip when applying Dark Glowing Self Tan to the face, inner arms, knees and hands is to mix the product with moisturiser, such as Radiance Body Balm, as its gives a professional yet natural finish.

Allow the fake tan to dry a little before putting your clothes back on. Choose a loose t-shirt or dress to avoid creating any marks on your newly tanned skin. Once the colour has developed fully (this can take up to 8 hours) you can take a shower to remove the excess product. Pat the skin dry and apply a hydrating moisturiser, such as Radiance Body Balm, to lock-in the colour and prolong the life of your tan.

After 4-5 days we recommend exfoliating to encourage even fading, which will also prepare your skin for your next tan. Follow these tips and you’ll be a professional in no time.
