Self-tanning tips for darker skin tones

2 Min Read Wednesday 3rd August 2011

If you have been blessed with beautifully bronzed skin there’s no reason why self-tan can’t enhance your natural beauty.

Self-tanning isn’t just for pale skin, it can work wonders for dark, tanned and olive skin tones too.

It is a common misconception that self-tanning and spray tanning are solely reserved for paler skin tones – dark, olive and honey brown skin tones can all benefit from the gorgeous colour boost that professional quality self-tan can provide. The real perk of self-tanning for dark skin is that it allows you to get an even colour and to give paler areas a much-needed tan. Your skin tone will look smoother and you can feel confident in an all-over deep bronze tan that compliments and enhances your features and hair colour perfectly.

Darker skin can be more prone to dryness, particularly on the elbows and knees, so make sure you use a rich moisturiser such as Sienna X eXceptional radiance moisturising balm to keep skin supple and smooth. Our eXquisitely soft body polish is tough on dry areas and gentle on your skin so that you can refine the texture of your skin and prep it to perfection before applying your self-tanning product.

If you’ve been out in the sun you may see tan lines appearing, in which case it’s best to carefully apply self-tan to the paler areas using a tanning mitt. One application of self-tanning product is usually sufficient to achieve the desired depth of colour, but you can always add a second application if this isn’t dark enough. Every skin tone will be different, but with careful application even deep honey and olive skins can enjoy an all-over caramel tan.
