Your Tanning Questions... Answered!

4 Min Read Wednesday 1st July 2015

It’s natural to have lots of questions in fake tanning, especially if you are new to the tanning scene, or trying a new product for the first time. Fortunately the team at Sienna X are always on hand to help with any queries, no matter how big or small and here are some of the most common questions we get asked…

Rhiannon Amy Park, via Facebook – Once it’s developed and I’ve washed off the guide colour, will the tan rub off on my wedding dress?

No. Transfer only occurs if the skin has not been properly exfoliated or if the guide colour has not been properly washed off. With all brides we recommend the ‘three-shower rule’ after their bridal tan to ensure that any remnants of guide colour are washed away prior to the big day.

Joanne Hindley, via Facebook – Someone going to Glastonbury asked me, if it rains all weekend will my tan run?

If the tan has fully developed and been washed off properly prior to the festival, there won’t be a streak in sight. To make the most, use Radiance Body Balm daily to lock in your colour and add vibrancy to your skin tone. (And with its fresh lemongrass and ginger fragrance, you won’t feel gross for ditching the smelly showers!)

@katdam83, via Twitter – I’m looking for a good facial tan, pregnant at the moment and everything seems to be clogging in my pores or not developing L

Because pregnancy causes so many hormonal changes, sometimes skin just doesn’t take product in the same way. Try mixing a small amount of Instant Bronzing Gel with your faithful daily moisturiser. This should keep the product light on your skin and prevent it from sinking in. Plus as it is an instant tanner and doesn’t develop, you won’t have problems with it developing and you don’t have to worry about being stuck with a tan fail, just reapply daily with your usual face cream!

Gemma Callow, via Facebook – Is there a way to stop any patches appearing when the tan is fading?

The best way is to start gently exfoliating 3-4 days after you’ve had your tan. It’ll encourage even wear off and prepare your skin for the next round of tanning!

Lisa Gronaugh, via telephone – How do I apply tan to my hands without getting orange palms?

Once you’ve tanned your arms down to the wrist, use your mitt to wipe the excess over the top of the hand and across the fingers. Unless you’re going for the ‘fake’ look, we’d advise to never apply tan directly onto the hands.

Stacy Phillips, via Facebook – Tanning your back… How on earth do we do that??

We’ve found the best way is to apply the product to the wrong side of your mitt and use the back of your hand to apply to the back! Problem solved!

Chloe Taylor, via email – I’m going on holiday, how can I keep my tan AND spend my days in the water?

Having a tan before you go away makes a huge difference; with a bit of colour you feel much more confident about revealing your body and having a gorgeous glow before you go means you don’t need to bake in the sun. But we all know that Chlorine and salt-water can be damaging to a false tan.

Our top tip? SPF in the day, Gradual Glowing Self Tan in the evening. You’ll maintain and build up your colour and no one will know that your tan is from a bottle. Plus you can rest assured that you are protecting your skin from the suns harmful effects!
