Swot up on your tanning lingo.

Learn more on the types of tanners you can buy.

Here’s part 2 of our guide to tanning terminology (if you missed part 1 you can read it here).

Tanning accelerator. As keen supporters of sun safety we would always advise all of our clients and customers to opt for a fake tan over a natural suntan to avoid UV rays that can damage the skin. However, some people prefer to tan in the sun and use lotions called tanning accelerators or tanning intensifiers to make their skin tan a bit faster.

Instant Tanner. Instant tanning products are a bit different to other types of fake tan. This is because they do not need time to develop. Time-saving formulations like Instant Bronzing Gel will darken your skin in seconds. However, these products don’t last as long a a regular sunless tan or a spray tan and wash off in the shower. The beauty is that you can apply an instant tan quickly for a short-term period, giving you complete control over your look.

Gradual tan. Designed to be applied regularly, gradual tans are a bit like body moisturisers and are super-easy to use. You can apply them every day if you like and the product will be absorbed in the same way as a moisturiser. Over the course of the day your skin will slowly darken, creating a subtle colour change. Gradual tans tend to produce a gorgeous glow on the skin that appears sun-kissed, fresh and natural.
