How to make a sunless tan last.

Use our products for instant colour, achieved in moments!

So you’ve exfoliated, applied your fake tan and allowed it to develop? Now’s the time to wash off the guide colour, pat dry your skin and cover your whole body with a rich moisturiser to give it the best chance of lasting a full 10 to 14 days.

Aside from moisturising regularly, there are a few other things you should be aware of if you want to ensure that your radiant tan looks as perfect as possible for a prolonged period.

The first thing is to avoid using harsh shower gels that will strip the colour off the top layer of your skin. In fact even an extra long bath could shorten the life of your tan – it’s much better to have a quick shower to retain your gorgeous glow for the whole week. (more…)

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Learn how fake tan can help you look toned and fit.

Discover the best way to apply sunless tan to boost muscle definition.

Tanning industry expert James Harknett joined our ranks to become a Sienna X brand ambassador at the start of this month. James has always been a fan of the sienna X range and now he’s in the press again explaining how to achieve the perfect golden glow with our industry leading products.

James’ latest editorial was published in Men’s Health magazine where he provided plenty of sage advice on fake tanning and muscle definition for men. Here’s what we’ve managed to glean from his wise words:

1. Use a dark shade of fake tan to highlight muscle tone. A darker skin tone naturally helps the body to look more healthy and firm so the best way to define the abdominal area and pectorals is to rub a darker tanning lotion into the skin using a tanning mitt. (more…)

Tips for achieving the perfect fake tan

Advice on tanning at home.

How to fake tan.

Tanning at home is simple – just apply the colour, wait for it to develop and wash it off in the shower to enjoy a gorgeous glow that lasts for the whole week!

If you’ve never self tanned before check out our top tips for achieving a superb result that looks natural, radiant and bronzed:

1. Exfoliate your whole body a day before your home tanning session to remove dead skin cells. The active ingredients in fake tan latch on to the uppermost layer of skin on your body so it’s vital that the surface is clean, fresh and even. If the lotion attaches to dry skin cells the colour will fade away faster when the cells naturally flake away with the passage of time. If old skin cells have already been sloughed off with your exfoliator your tan will last much longer. (more…)

Moisturise to protect your tan

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

Feed your skin with moisture and enhance your tan.

Ensure that your bronzed skin becomes the star of the show.

During the winter months skin can feel cracked and dry, which can often make us slather on the moisturiser and wrap up in something warm. However, sticking to a moisturising routine is just as important when the sun shines, especially on skin that has been fake tanned.

Moisturisers work by replenishing the skin cells with essential hydration and help to soften the skin and reduce the onset of wrinkles. By protecting the top layer of skin, moisturisers can increase the life of your sunless tan by preventing dead skin cells from flaking off.

When you apply fake tan make sure that you rub moisturiser into the skin after the colour has developed and you’ve washed off the guide colour. This will add brightness to your skin and ensure that you get as much life as possible out of your new burnished colour. (more…)

Fake tan aftercare

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Details on how to care for your skin after your sunless tanning treatment.

Extend the life of your tan with some easy-to-follow advice.

Caring for your tan is important if you’re keen to prolong your sun kissed colour for as long as possible. If you’ve had a spray tan over the weekend or chosen to fake tan from the comfort of your own home in preparation for Valentine’s day here are a couple of tips on ensuring that your bronzed and beautiful look lasts for days.

1.Avoid harsh face washes and body gels. Once you’ve achieved your golden glow do your best to stop using shower gel that dries out the skin. Opt for products that add moisture and hydration like eXotically rich face & body wash. This ultra-mild gel contains aloe vera and silk protein and is gentle enough for facial use. Formulated to add radiance to the skin, it has a delicate fragrance of lemongrass and ginger and will help the skin to retain its moisture levels – if the skin dries out, the top layer of cells that have been darkened with fake take will begin to be sloughed off and therefore reduce the life cycle of your tan. How to avoid fake tan fails

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Top tips on fake tanning.

Guidance and advice on sunless tanning at home.

Achieving the perfect fake tan doesn’t have to be difficult if you take some time to prepare your skin beforehand. Here are our top tips on ensuring that your sunless tan looks flawless and fabulous:

1.Leave at least 24 hours between waxing and fake tanning. Try to shave or wax your legs and underarms at least a day before you plan on applying fake tan. The pores on your skin open up after a waxing treatment and if you rub fake tan onto your body straight away you’ll be left with a spotty finish.

2.Use barrier cream. There are some areas of the body that need to be protected from tanning product including the eyebrows and finger nails. Apply a light coat of barrier cream onto any areas of the skin that you do not want to tan – this will avoid discolouration of the nail bed. Dry areas like the elbows and the palms of the hands and feet should also be covered with barrier cream. (more…)

How to apply fake tan

Simple tanning tips for beginners.

Sienna X guidelines to build your tanning confidence.

If you’ve never fake tanned before here is a helpful guide on where to start:

1.Exfoliate! The first thing you should do is exfoliate – this removes the dead cells on the top layer of the skin and leaves behind a fresh bed of smooth cells that provide the perfect base for the application of fake tan lotion. Opt for Sienna X eXquisitely soft body polish if you want to use a simple product that results in soft, silky skin, leaving a perfect finish for absorbing any Sienna X tanning product. This gorgeous scrub comprises of fine pumice, ginger and lemongrass, this exfoliator polishes the skin from top to toe and ensures that you don’t have any dry areas that can appear patchy and unsightly after a fake tan treatment.

2.Remove unwanted hair. It’s important to shave or wax your legs and underarms at least 24 hours before fake tanning. Waxing in particular can result in creating open pores; if you apply fake tan straight after a hair removal treatment the tanning lotion can seep into those areas, making the skin look dimpled and spotty.
