Blogger of the Month: Brighton Girl Problems

5 Min Read Friday 13th March 2015

In the first of our Blogger of the Month series, we’ve sat down with the hilarious and unabashed anonymous blogger behind Brighton Girl Problems. When she’s not on Twitter talking about the common hardships of life that we can all relate to (for example, ‘Looking at your drunk selfies the next morning and realising you really aren’t that attractive’), she is blogging about all things beauty, fashion, lifestyle, dating – and of course, Brighton.

Now with over 30,000 Twitter followers, a nomination in this year’s UK Blogging Awards, and plans to launch a shop on her blog, the girl behind the blog seems to be set for bigger and better things. Oh, and by the way, she really is anonymous – her emails are signed off ‘BGP’. Mysterious…

Hi BGP! Tell us your blogging story – how did you get started and what’s the main focus of your blog?

I started my Twitter off first, as a humorous ‘things that girls think but don’t say out loud’ platform, but the more popularity it gained the more I felt I needed to voice my thoughts in more than 140 characters. I started my blog and was amazed at the popularity. I focus on all sorts of topics – love, relationships, beauty, fashion, lifestyle and reviews. It’s like an online book for any females – or males – who want advice, a pep talk or a bit of help on the best foundation to go to.

What’s been your proudest moment as a blogger?

I think I’ve had so many little proud moments since starting my blog. Being a finalist for the Uk Blogging Awards (the awards ceremony is in April) was a huge honour. Hitting 1 million views was also a mini out-of-body experience for me; I couldn’t believe that I was ever capable of reaching that wide of an audience. I think the proudest moments I have are when I get emails from girls saying my blogs have helped them through difficult times. Those people are the reason I will never stop blogging.

How do you see your blog developing in the next 12 months?

I hope, of course, that it reaches more and more people and helps them overcome difficult situations that have arisen in their lives. I also want to give it a little makeover and get better at the technical side of things so it’s as visually pleasing to all my lovely readers as possible!

What advice would you give would-be bloggers just starting out?

I would say blog about things you love and are passionate and confident about. Don’t blog about something that doesn’t interest you just because you feel people will like or relate to it. And be patient – don’t be disappointed if your blog doesn’t take off within a week or a month or even a year. It has taken me nearly a year and a half to get my blog to where it is and the readership to where it is. Also, people will criticise, as they always will when you put a bit of yourself onto the internet, but ignore them. As Kevin from Mean Girls elegantly put ‘don’t let the haters stop you from doing your thangggg’

What are your top 3 beauty products that you couldn’t live without?

Oh god this is a hard one. My makeup bag is like Santa’s sack! It’s my morning cardio just putting it in my handbag for the day. If I had to pick 3… I would say my Beauty Blender, my NARS Sheer Glow Foundation and my Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics palette. All 3 things literally give you a flawless look. A Beauty Blender is a genuine can’t-live-without product and buffs any base into perfection. NARS Sheer Glow is a holy grail product (and it’s really not very sheer) and the Naked 2 Basics palette is from another universe – the staying power is incredible, pigmentation is amazing and colours are perfect. They’re absolutely perfect for a casual muted daytime eye or they can be built up to a dramatic smokey eye for the evening. Beautiful.

And finally… What’s your top tanning tip?

Exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate! If there’s anything worse than scaly dry skin it’s scaly dry tanned skin! Make sure you exfoliate and shave and moisturise before applying any tan. It’ll look smoother and way more flawless and also last longer!

A huge thank you to Brighton Girl Problems for being our first Blogger of the Month. You can follow her on Twitter @BtonGirlProbs, and for now we’ll leave you with our favourite words of BGP wisdom:
